Path Of Exile: Quality Of The Game Will Be Prioritized In 2023

Feb 08, 2023

Currently, Path of Exile has been in development for nearly 10 years. In 2023, Grinding Gear Games will take a quality-first approach to the game. Path of Exile is going through a period of relative stability as The Forbidden Sanctum's expansion has managed to tick all the necessary check boxes for players. Based on your feedback, Grinding Gear Games hopes to continue with the same design philosophy to keep the ball rolling in future expansions, and this is just a plan they have for now.

Path of Exile

Last year, Archnemesis league and Siege of the Atlas expansion packs were strong. However, it didn't take long for Path of Exile to run into a conundrum that would take months to solve. Afterwards, the team made a big decision, one that had never been made before. That is, when Sentinel league launched, incorporated the Archnemesis system into the existing game and made rare enemies much stronger than before. At the same time, loot drop rates were changed, and the player-driven economy was severely damaged. With the arrival of the Lake of Kalandra expansion, it is even more difficult for the team to solve the problem. This approach, along with changes to Archnemesis, has given Path of Exile its lowest player retention rate in years. However, things took a turn for the better. Grinding Gear Games reworked the Archnemesis system and adjusted loot drops to health in The Forbidden Sanctum expansion.

After a rough year, Grinding Gear Games finally has a chance to look to a new future. Grinding Gear Games outlined its plans for 2023 in an official forum post. Not only will it release at least two new expansion packs then, but it will host the much-awaited ExileCon. The post also said that the new expansion will be released in early April, which means that The Sanctum League will be extended for another month. Currently, the game's developers have determined that the extra month will help them work on the 3.21 expansion, and they'll be doing something unique to keep downtime excited. After 3.21, the studio will focus entirely on the upcoming ExileCon.

ExileCon is an annual event centered on Path of Exile. Here, Grinding Gear Games showcases future projects. This event will showcase the 3.22 expansion pack, Path of Exile Mobile, Path of Exile 2 and their beta dates. Among them, Path of Exile 2 is the most expected one. While Path of Exile Mobile and Path of Exile 2 will take a while to arrive, not long after ExileCon wraps up, the 3.22 expansion will be released in two weeks. So, if you are going to New Zealand to attend ExileCon, then please make sure to make corresponding plans, such as using POE Currency to get more powerful equipment, so that you can better use the 3.22 expansion.

It's been a busy and difficult time for Grinding Gear Games lately, but I'm sure The Forbidden Sanctum expansion and Ruthless mode will restore your confidence. With Diablo 4 about to be released, Last Epoch is working on a multiplayer mode, and Path of Exile's roadmap feels promising, so if you usually like ARPG, don't worry about the future of this genre.
