On December 11th, Path of Exile 2 will officially release version 1.0 completely free. For an ARPG that has been polished in early access for two years, going free means a structural expansion of its audience.
A large number of players who have never played PoE series before, or even deeply played ARPGs, will flood into Wraeclast on the same day. The question is, how many of these people will last for the first hour or two?
New players' logic for choosing a class is often straightforward: either choose the coolest-looking class, or follow the build guide and try those builds that showcase amazing damage.
However, the power levels depicted in guides are usually based on a pre-built character level, gear, and skill set, which differs significantly from the actual experience of playing a level 1 character.
In Path of Exile 2, some skills require synergy with other skills, support gems, or specific equipment to truly shine. Some core skills for certain builds are even unlocked only after the character reaches a certain level.
Before these key components are in place, players can only rely on an underdeveloped build to advance the campaign, naturally resulting in a less than ideal gameplay experience.
This is the sense of disappointment new players face: their chosen class isn't without potential, but it requires a considerable investment of time to experience its true gameplay characteristics.
The problem is that new players may not be aware of this. When the actual gameplay differs significantly from what's shown in trailers or guides, they easily attribute their poor early-game experience to the class itself or even the game design, rather than the underdeveloped skill combinations.
The allure of PoE 2 largely stems from the complex system of gear affixes, currency, skill combinations, and character building. However, for players new to the game, these systems can also become a significant informational barrier. Is a rare piece of equipment with multiple affixes worth replacing? Should you use found PoE 2 currency immediately, save it for later, or sell it for other resources? What do all the game terms in the skill hints mean?
Experienced players can quickly make judgments based on their experience, but new players often lack the background knowledge needed to understand this information and cannot grasp the consequences of their choices.
When players struggle to judge whether a piece of equipment is better than their current gear, frustration stems not from the complexity of the system itself, but from the game's failure to provide sufficiently clear feedback.
Choosing the wrong node on the passive tree, trying a skill gem only to find it unsuitable, or running out of limited currency while crafting equipment are all normal learning processes in complex RPGs.
However, the cost of making mistakes in PoE2 is excessively high.
For example, resetting talents requires a significant amount of resources to return passive points, and this cost increases with character level. For new players still learning the game mechanics, a single wrong choice can deplete their already limited resources.
More importantly, this design might produce results contrary to the game's objectives. When the cost of trying new gameplay outweighs the potential benefits, players tend to abandon independent exploration and instead blindly follow established strategies.
What should have been a trial-and-error process to help players understand the game has instead become an excuse for risk aversion.
If the developers want players to develop their own deck-building strategies through practice, then the early game mechanics should allow for exploration, rather than turning a single wrong choice into a long-term burden.
Trial of the Sekhemas is one of the key ways for players to unlock Ascendancy, and also a significant hurdle that new players may encounter in campaigns.
Trial introduces Honour mechanic: Trial of the Sekhemas introduces the Honour mechanic: taking a hit results in a loss of Honour; reaching zero Honour kicks the player out of the trial, and it does not regenerate between floors.
For experienced players already familiar with the mechanics, this is simply a challenge requiring adjustments to Relic configurations and movement habits. However, for players new to PoE 2, the Honor system combined with the random penalty of Affliction selection can create a feeling of meaninglessness within minutes.
More importantly, the timing of the Trial is extremely sensitive. Players are just becoming familiar with their character's skills and combat style, expecting a substantial power boost through their first ascendancy, only to suffer a costly failure here.
If players haven't yet built confidence in the game's progression curve, this setback could be their final reason to quit.
Therefore, the problem with Trial of the Sekhemas isn't just the level of difficulty, but whether the challenge mechanics, the cost of failure, and the player's current level of understanding are appropriate. For a game aiming to attract a large number of new players, this is a crucial design aspect that deserves careful consideration before the official release.
It's commendable that the developers didn't ignore these issues during early access but have gradually improved the campaign experience for new players through multiple updates.
The checkpoint teleportation feature introduced in version 0.3.0 allows players to teleport to discovered checkpoints and waypoints in large areas, directly alleviating the frustration of getting stuck in a huge map.
Subsequent updates further reduced the size of some campaign areas and added directional clues to the environment, such as following the river in Grelwood to reach Red Vale, and signs in Hunting Grounds pointing to Ogham Farmlands.
Skill gem availability has also been improved. While the high randomness of gem drops in early patches could indeed cause a build to be stuck on a single skill for several acts, later updates have gradually made it easier for vendors to provide uncut skill gems earlier and more consistently.
In contrast, the first day experience of Trial of the Sekhemas deserves special attention. The developers have made significant adjustments to the experience of Trial of Chaos, and some mechanics are continuously being improved. However, new players after the official release will not have to wait indefinitely for subsequent patches.
Duelist is expected to debut with the 1.0 official release, becoming a hybrid class in Path of Exile 2 with a sword as its core weapon, emphasizing fast melee combat and sword-and-shield fighting.
The new class is expected to attract both new and returning players, but its early-game strength, skill unlocking pace, and ascendancy design will face initial challenges. If it fails to fully showcase the sword-and-shield melee characteristics in the first few hours, the class itself could become a reason for new player attrition.
On December 11th, POE2 faces not only the challenge of sufficient endgame content, but also whether it can provide new players with a reason to continue exploring from the very first few steps of Wraeclast.

ExileCon 2026 will take place in Auckland on November 6–7, Pacific Time, with players eagerly anticipating the reveal of Path of Exile 3.30 and the latest development updates for Path of Exile 2.
In addition to new content for both games, the official team has prepared racing events, Twitch Drops, and more than 60 new themed merchandise items.

Across the two days of ExileCon 2026, the official team has prepared a wide range of on-site activities. As at previous ExileCon events, attendees will be able to experience unreleased game content firsthand on dedicated demo stations and provide feedback directly to the development team.
However, the content available for testing may not necessarily be included in the final releases of PoE 3.30 or PoE 2. It could even feature content from much later stages of development.
For example, Druid showcased at ExileCon 2023 did not launch until 2025. This time, the on-site demos might offer an early look at previously unannounced classes such as Shadow or Templar.
Top Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2 racers will compete in the live finals across both days of the convention. The official team will also host meet-and-greet sessions featuring popular streamers and content creators.
A dedicated streamer stage will also be available, where attendees can watch their live reactions to major announcements or join them for hands-on gameplay sessions. Perhaps the developers will even give attendees an early glimpse of what they have been cooking up.
On-site attendees will receive exclusive early access to more than 60 new themed merchandise items, including T-shirts, pins, keycaps, posters, and plush toys. Please note that the merchandise store will not accept cash. Only credit cards, debit cards, and New Zealand EFTPOS cards will be accepted.
You can also participate in an exclusive, on-site Path of Exile trading card game experience available only at ExileCon. Challenge the developers to a match, earn better loot through battles, and take on bosses.
Only ticket holders will have access to the on-site activities at ExileCon 2026. For most players around the world, watching the livestream will be the primary way to learn about the upcoming announcements.

Path of Exile 3.30 will be fully revealed during ExileCon 2026 livestream. The official team might even release the patch notes shortly after the broadcast ends. The new League is scheduled to launch on November 13.
One confirmed detail is the return of Harbingers. They were removed in patch 3.27, when the official team promised they would eventually return, but they were absent from PoE 3.29.
During an official Q&A session, the team hinted that Harbingers would return before the end of the year. This makes 3.30 a likely candidate to feature Harbingers as major enemies or a central League mechanic. It could also introduce an updated version of Harbinger system.
Many players have also reported that they often need to build an extremely powerful character before they can farm PoE currency efficiently. The developers intend to address this issue in PoE 3.30.
The team plans to review every endgame League mechanic and introduce new content for each one. This could mean a comprehensive overhaul of Scarabs or a fundamental change to how a particular mechanic works.
The developers have also explicitly acknowledged that endgame content no longer provides enough of a challenge for top-tier builds and has become stale, particularly for players with highly optimized characters. They have made it clear that this is a problem they want to solve.
Interviews have also revealed a long-term goal of eventually giving every major League mechanic its own pinnacle boss. These bosses would be associated with corresponding Bloodline Ascendancies, although it remains unclear whether any of this content will be showcased at ExileCon 2026.

The timing of 3.30 is unusual because it falls between ExileCon and the release of Path of Exile 2 version 1.0. In other words, PoE 2 1.0 is expected to arrive roughly one month after the launch of 3.30.
With GTA 6 and WoW Forever launching around the same period, the timing of PoE 3.30 is particularly awkward. Meanwhile, the 1.0 release will clearly require the entire team to focus on getting everything right. A 1.0 launch is a one-time opportunity, and the developers cannot afford to get it wrong.
The main objective for version 1.0 is to add the final two acts of the main campaign, Acts 5 and 6, completing the overall storyline. The Interlude content, which served as a temporary bridge during Early Access, will be removed. Its associated events will no longer be considered canon, although some of its monsters may remain as map bosses.
Path of Exile 1 has 10 Acts, but Acts 6–10 largely reuse areas and environments from Acts 1–5. From a narrative perspective, the main difference is the timeline in which the events take place.
PoE 2 has a shorter main campaign, so it is unlikely to follow PoE 1's approach of reusing acts. A shorter campaign also allows players to reach the endgame more quickly.
Duelist and sword-based weapons should be available for hands-on testing at ExileCon 2026. Duelist will have dedicated Ascendancy classes, although not every detail of its Ascendancy branches may be fully implemented in version 1.0.
Ranger's Arcane Archer and Druid's Mystery Ascendancy might also make an appearance at ExileCon 2026.
This possibility is supported by the official team's previous statement that every class should have a complete Ascendancy loadout by version 1.0. Players had expected these options to arrive in patch 0.5.0 or 0.5.5, but neither update delivered them.
When new players select a skill, the game recommends Uncut Support Gems that they can use to customize it. However, a considerable number of these recommendations are not actually suitable for the selected skill.
The official team has acknowledged the issue and is expected to overhaul both the recommendation system and the support gems themselves for version 1.0.
The official team may focus ExileCon 2026 primarily on the December release of PoE 2 1.0. Meanwhile, PoE 3.30 might bring back popular legacy mechanics that generate strong engagement, such as Mirage mechanic, to maintain player interest. After all, another major game is scheduled to launch in November.

Exiles, although we are still over a month away from the launch of Path of Exile 2 Patch 1.0, it is still worth your time to make the most of Patch 0.5.5. If you are looking for a low-effort way to earn currency alongside your regular gameplay, you don't necessarily need to spend long hours camping the trade market.
By utilizing straightforward, well-defined crafting processes, you can prepare high-demand items during your spare moments - a great way to steadily accumulate PoE 2 currency.
Don't overlook Tier 15 Waystones in Patch 0.5.5. They require minimal processing steps, have a low base cost, and remain in constant demand among high-level players.
Through affix manipulation and corruption, some of these can be upgraded into Tier 16 Waystones; meanwhile, high-quality Tier 15 Waystones also enjoy a stable market.
Your primary crafting costs will involve Omens, followed by Chaos Orbs, Exalted Orbs, and the base items themselves.
To ensure you can recoup your investment and turn a profit in a reasonable timeframe, it is essential to work in large batches and price your finished items competitively against the current market.

Before executing this strategy in PoE 2, it is recommended to prepare at least 50 uncorrupted Tier 15 Waystones - these can be of Normal, Magic, or Rare rarity.
Working with larger batches helps smooth out the variance introduced by the final corruption step (using Vaal Orbs).
For instance, if you only prepare seven or eight maps, your results will depend heavily on luck, significantly increasing the risk of a poor outcome.

For Normal or Magic maps, start by using an Orb of Alchemy to upgrade them to Rare rarity. Then, use Exalted Orbs to fill up the map's affixes until no more can be added.
Keep in mind that this step is simply about completing the base item; the true value of the final product is determined by the specific affixes you aim for in the subsequent stages.
Once these steps are complete, you can move on to using Omens to reroll the map affixes, making the overall process much smoother and more efficient.
For the next step, you will need to prepare three types of Omens: Omen of Chaotic Rarity, Omen of Chaotic Quantity, and Omen of Chaotic Monsters.
In Path of Exile 2, activate all three Omens, then use a Chaos Orb on each Rare map that already has a full set of modifiers.
Each use of a Chaos Orb consumes one of each Omen; therefore, you should only use a Chaos Orb once per map. Ensure that Omens remain active throughout the process to avoid wasting them on maps you have already modified.
Your goal is to achieve high values for Waystone Drop Chance and Monster Effectiveness - for instance, 85% and 86%.
While this process does not guarantee a perfect outcome every time, using these Omens helps steer the results toward more valuable configurations.
Finally, use Vaal Orbs to corrupt your maps. This offers a chance to upgrade a Tier 15 Waystone to a Tier 16, though it may also preserve or alter the existing modifiers.
Keep in mind that once a map is corrupted, it can no longer be modified. This reinforces the importance of the batch processing principle mentioned earlier: work on 50 maps at a time.
This way, even if some individual results are suboptimal, the high-quality outcomes and Tier 16 Waystones will ensure your overall profit remains strong.
Tier 16 Waystones and high-quality Tier 15 Waystones are easier to sell, and they serve as the primary source of profit for this strategy.
Once you have finished crafting your Waystones, it is best to group similar items together when listing them; this makes the selling process much more efficient.
For example, you could list Tier 16 Waystones in one group, while grouping Tier 15 Waystones that share the same modifiers and price point. Alternatively, you might separate them based on price - grouping lower-priced maps together and higher-priced ones in another category.
When players search for Waystones in Path of Exile 2, they are often looking for specific types they frequently run.
By organizing your listings clearly - grouping similar items with the same price - you increase the likelihood of selling multiple maps in a single transaction.
Naturally, when setting prices for your Waystones, be sure to check the current market rates and the prices at which similar items are listed to ensure your pricing is reasonable.
If you invest around 80 Divine Orbs into a batch of 50 Waystones, the revenue from selling the finished products could reach approximately 96 Divine Orbs, yielding a profit of 16 Divine Orbs.
In practice, your actual earnings will fluctuate based on the price of Omens, the market value of the finished Waystones, and the outcomes of your corruption attempts; therefore, this is not a guaranteed or fixed return.
To maximize your success, stick to bulk-crafting, keep a close eye on your Omen consumption, and list your items in batches.
Crafting and listing these Waystones takes, at most, ten minutes - making it a perfect task to handle between maps without disrupting your progress through Atlas.
Give it a try and make some currency in the late stages of PoE 2 Patch 0.5.5!

The official release date for PoE 3.30 has been announced. The development team will reveal the details during ExileCon on November 6, with the update officially launching on November 13. Unfortunately, the timing is awkward, as the release falls between WoW Forever and GTA 6.
However, competition from these two games is only part of the problem. PoE 3.29 also received a lukewarm response, with player retention remaining relatively low. Compared with previous leagues, Allflame League felt particularly unrewarding. If Path of Exile 3.30 is to maintain its momentum while competing with these two games, the development team will need to make substantial changes.

Curse of the Allflame mechanic itself was interesting. Players simply needed to move through underwater areas and collect items, without facing particularly dangerous environments. However, despite its relaxed gameplay, the rewards did not feel sufficient for the time invested.
The development team later increased the loot from underwater chests, turning the mechanic into one of the most effective scarab printers and gold printers in the game. However, it never became a high-reward mechanic that consistently generated large amounts of currency from monster kills.
Another reason was that many popular mapping strategies had been nerfed in Mirage League (3.28), although Mirage mechanic itself helped compensate for those changes. Once Mirage mechanic was removed, the income from many strategies fell to roughly half of what it had been.
Additionally, approximately a month and a half after Allflame League launched, PoE 2 Patch 0.5.5 arrived, further contributing to player attrition.
The biggest problem with PoE 1's endgame is that stronger monsters do not translate into sufficient raw currency drops.
The development team has steadily reduced these returns over the years. Although mechanics such as Mirage and Torment once helped compensate for this trend, low baseline monster drops leave players with little incentive to keep playing when a new league mechanic fails to deliver.
The development team has attempted to give each league mechanic its own distinctive rewards, such as Catalysts from Ultimatum and Blight Oils from Blight. This is a smart change, but it should not come at the expense of regular raw currency drops from league mechanics.
The development team previously stated that Patch 3.28 increased the baseline drop rate of Divine Orbs relative to other currencies. Although no announcement confirmed that this change was reverted in 3.29, the overall experience throughout the league felt as though it had been rolled back.
For some top-tier builds, players either have to farm for a long time to obtain the required gear or buy PoE currency. Playing multiple builds takes longer than in other leagues.

Juiced Expeditions can be among the most challenging activities in the game. Monsters are extremely dangerous, feature numerous immunities, and can easily one-shot characters. Players must also spend considerable time reading and evaluating modifiers.
Despite this high difficulty, the rewards are underwhelming because the monsters themselves drop little currency. Even as a low-investment strategy, farming currency through Tujen offers limited returns, typically yielding only items such as Orbs of Alchemy and Chromatic Orbs, with the occasional small amount of Chaos Orbs.
By comparison, Expedition in Path of Exile2 is practically a currency printer. With the right passives and Tablets, it can generate more than 25 PoE Divine Orbs per hour in pure drops.
Mercenary mechanic has become a permanent part of the core game, giving players another way to generate currency. Luminary is also a particularly enjoyable build archetype.
The problem, however, is that finding a good Mercenary is far too difficult. With so many layers of randomness, the gap between an average or poor Mercenary and an excellent one is enormous. Players need more control over which types of Mercenaries they encounter, and more importantly, underperforming Mercenaries need substantial buffs.
The gap between Kineticist and certain random Mercenaries or Slam Chieftain archetype is simply too large. Weaker Mercenaries should be brought closer to the power level of the strongest options.
Blight primarily rewards players with Oils of various rarities, including Crimson, Opalescent, Silver, and Golden Oils. These are essential materials for crafting Anointments, and the mechanic also provides some basic currency.
Blight used to be frustrating because the sheer number of monsters could overwhelm players' computers and even strain servers. In PoE 3.29, however, its main problem is insufficient rewards. Blighted Maps fall behind regular mapping strategies that combine Atlas passive skills with Scarabs in terms of reward efficiency.
Scarabs were reworked in Patch 3.24 and were well received at the time. However, players subsequently discovered increasingly powerful combinations, prompting the development team to repeatedly rework or nerf them. Over the years, most Scarabs have lost their appeal, as players no longer feel that they add much value to each map. Harvest Scarabs are an exception, although they occupy a somewhat different niche.
Scarabs do not need a complete overhaul because the system remains fundamentally functional. The problem is that only a handful of specific Scarabs deliver the highest returns.
Overall, Scarab strategies were relatively weak in PoE 3.29 because the average Scarab offered little value. Using a Scarab should make players feel that they have significantly improved the rewards from a map, but most Scarabs currently fail to deliver that experience.
PoE 3.29 was not a bad league in itself, but its main problem was that mapping did not feel rewarding enough. Hopefully, PoE 3.30 will introduce more Scarab combinations, meaningful buffs to Scarabs overall, and more baseline currency drops from monsters spawned by league mechanics.
